Counter Strike

The CPL will use CS 1.6 in 2007

counter-strike, the cpl

Just two weeks after new years, a few top teams have started to convert to Counter-Strike: Source, and with a few leagues now offering more money in Source then in 1.6, this seems like the right move for some teams. The CPL have tried to use Source before in their events some time ago, however, they changed back to 1.6 mostly because the game wasn't ready yet from competitive play. In a forum post on GotFrag, United State- Angel Munoz states that The CPL intends to use Counter-Strike 1.6 in their tournaments for 2007, even after few teams have already started to convert to Source.

"For the teams now switching to Source because DirecTV was denied a license for 1.6, I sincerely wish you the best of luck. The CPL is using 1.6 in 2007. Hopefully the "future of esports" can include many different ideas and concepts."

If Angel sticks to his statement remains to be seen, as they have gone back on what they have said earlier like with CS:S. With the Counter-Strike Source Pro Mod still under development, it is still possible to see it getting used by The CPL before the end of the year.

Smart move, with ESWC also using 1.6. Teams will be losing money as they attempt to enter this DTV thing.
