MYM PD10: Final four

At the start of the playoffs 16 teams gathered to prove the world which one of them is the best. After many long battles, four teams managed to come out on top to reach the final stages of this tournament!

Even though Internationa- MYM and Russian Fede- Virtus.Pro were expected to fight against each other once again for the title, it seems that it won't happen, at least not this time. This tournament seems to be all about the underdogs! There have been many impressive performances and many upsets this season like Denmark Met taking down Malaysia Ks and Slovakia SGC taking MYM out!

The two favorite underdogs will face off tonight at 18:00 CET! They will be competing for a spot in the consolation final, waiting to face either Sweden SK or Ukraine WG. SK and WG will be competing in the winner bracket final tonight at 19:00 CET! Both matches will be streamed live on GGTV with live updates on the matchtickers.

Oh ok, I was assuming the "consolation final" would be the "Grand Final," i.e. the winners of the two brackets. In fact, the winner of Pride 10 will be decided by SK vs WG, whereas the last match will just be extra or for consoling.

Hold on, I think my impression was right -- there will be a Grand Final between the two brackets. Found that in the link to the rules. A consolation final would, I guess, be for 3rd and 4rth place.

You're wrong. The lowerbracket final decides who is number 4, then there will be the consolation final between the loser of the winnerbracket final (team #1 and team #2) and the winner of the loserbracket final (team #3 or team #4). The consolation final decides which team grabs third place (the loser) and who goes on to face the winner of the winnerbracket in the grand final.

I.E. Team #1 beats team #2 in the winnerbracket final, team #3 beats team #4 in the loserbracket final. Team #2 and team #3 would then play the consolation final, team #3 wins the consolation final meaning team #2 will end in third place and team #3 will go on to meet team #1 in the grand final.

Now even I'm confused. Ehm, but that's the gist, if you understood it :)

Yes, it seems today I am spending much time thinking on how this works, so I think I follow what you are saying.

We are saying the same thing, and, hence, the above article needs a small correction. SK and WG play for the WB final. Met and SGC play for the LB final. The losers of these two games play in the consolation final for spots 3 and 4. The winners of the two games play in the Grand Final for spots 1 and 2.

I believe we covered that one.

No, the consolation final is not like a bronze final in football as you are describing, it's as simple as: the team who loses the winnerbracket final (SK or WG) against the team that WINS the loserbracket final (Met or SGC). The winner of the consolation final will go on to the grand final.

Really!? Wow, from reading the rules it seemed that the winners of the WB and the LB go straight to the Grand Final. Thanks, as a player involved, I'm sure you are right, LOL.

I think it is because there are different oppinions on when the LB Finals is. In Denmark you have a LB-final where the lowerbracket-teams face each other, and a consolation final where the loser of the WB final face the victor from the LB Final :p

The double elimination format does not have room for any 3rd place finals, as the 3rd place is decided in the LB final.

The WB final decides who moves on to the grand final, and who moves on to the LB final ( which is the loser obviously ).

The LB final consists of the 2 teams which have already lost one match already. The winner of it advances to the grand finals, and the loser finishes 3rd.

It seems like a pretty interesting system that gives the team who lost the WB final a chance yet to come back in the GF. But, there is an extra challenge for teams already in the LB.

It doesnt matter what you call it, the format is the same. In my terminology the match between the WB Final loser and the LB-victor is called Consolation Final (like in most other tournaments). Whether you call it Consolation Final or LB Finals doesn't matter, as the format is still the same. (And yes, I know some people call the 3rd/4th place decider in single elimination for Consolation Final and that is why its so confusing.) I'm forever blowing bubbles!

The issue is not stupid, actually. As others mentioned, the term "consolation game" in sports typically refers to a game that "consoles" teams that go a long way, but are out of the final.

IMHO i dont think so.. I think MET and SGC is a threat too.. either of them make it to the final sure give one hell of the match for the WB winnner.. Is not how good you are, Is how good you want to be!!
