I think it would be a great idea to have a thread with some film-reviews, and talk about what kind of movies you like etc. I can watch every genre from love-stories to sci-fi so there's really nothing special that turns me on, but it depends on the mood I guess. Anyways, I would like to recommend some pretty interesting movies here, and I think I'll start off with:

King Kong: I am a sucker for special effects, and in this one you will see a lot of them. Torè Kong as the natives call him is a very old gorilla trapped on an island unknown to the civilized world. You will be amazed by the balance of action (even though there might be some questionable scenes here and there), drama and not to mention love in this motion picture. And by roll of the dice: 5.

Memoirs of a Geisha: Ok, I love Japan and its culture, and just seeing a sliding-door or even someone eating while sitting on the floor gets me wired up, so this was really a great movie for my six senses. The Geisha were ladies you paid to spend time with, and not necessarily have sex with. Besides, only men with great status could afford to pay for such company. They knew the arts of dance and conversation, and by roll of the dice: 6.

Other movies worth mentioning would be: Ong Bak, Serenity, Breaveheart (of course) and for those of you that have missed him; Eddie Murphy with Delirious and Raw.

Hope you all have some interesting suggestions so I can sink my teeth in some new and interesting movies soon ^.-

For comedy, I would recommend the Blues Brothers, hilarous from start to finish.
For sci-fi, there are a few of them that are good, such as the first Resident Evil, The Fifth Element, and Returner. Even though the Returner was a little strange, it was pretty good.

Save the last Dance: Great movie with dancing, hip hop dancing, and racism and stuff like that. The dance part really got me into it^^

SAW: One messed up movies that scared me for like a week. It's not like those gore movies that doesn't really scare me but those screw with your head type^^

I've tried to get my hands on Saw, and why you wouldn't think it would be that difficult, because everyone has seen it.. But it's always out when I go to the video store, and always sold out when I go to the record-shops.. just my luck I guess. Yeees, I could download it, but I would really like to see it on dvd on the telly ^^

If you like the first saw, see the second, even better, and I think there is going to be a third one sometime here.

a funny one which i laughed to death was : the Tuxedo (with Jackie Chan).

another one which I liked was : crunching dragon hidden dragon

OldBoy (Korean movie, very good, very weird)

you are my sunshine (Korean, good and a sad story)

Final Fantasy VII - Advent children - i absolutely LOVED the effects, the story is.. so-so but the whole thing blew me away.

It's too bad they didn't make Advent Children into a series instead. The story started interesting, but then they just decided to skip it over to have more fighting scenes. Too much of that for me to enjoy it ~~

Umm... I guess I should recommend Seven Samurai (Kurosawa) to those who haven't seen it already. It's quite old, but one of the best movies I have seen.

I'd also like to recommend Sleepy Hollow and Nightmare before Christmass (both by Tim Burton). The first being a kind of mix between action, horror and comedy but precisely on the right level with everything, and the other being a weird musical about halloween hi-jacking christmass. :)

Finally I guess I should suggest In the head of John Malkovic and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind. Both being very sad and tragic and very funny at the same time, but most of all: veeeeery very weird.

#6 some complaints on the last one because of my colour use, so I made a new one ;P

I just remembered another one: The last samurai! This is probarbly the best movie next to Breaveheart I've ever seen, I think :) So if you didn't see it, see it!

Last of the Mohicans by Michael Mann. Watched it so many times and still it blows me away.

My Sassy Girl (Korean movie). One of the best asian movies I have ever seen. IT WORKS!

And the korean director Kim Ki-Duk makes some excellent movies. But be prepared for some tough scenes.

Yeah, I thought it was really weird and meaningless too ^^ Chinese actors as japanese speaking english? :P

Also, I guess you're supposed to feel sorry for the main character in this kind of movie, but I never really did except for the begining. After that, every problem seemed to evaporate, everything always turned out for the best in every situation. :P

It is a story told by the main character, and during the war the Americans were all over the place, so it would make sense to speak English during those times. And there could be a lot of other reasons for it, but mostly I believe it's because it's a western production ;) But I would like it to be one or the other, preferably Japanese.

It tells you about the geisha, and I think it was a really interesting movie. And a nice story told by zaori, how can it be meaninglesss :)

Asian film production probably has some of the best drama, and horror movies.

I love Quentin Tarantino's movies, for example: From dusk till down or Kill Bill (vol1&2). He's a great director, who makes a lot of funny situations in his movies, making actors to act & say great & hilarious things.

Mainstream alert. What about the movies not everybody has heard of, or that were not one thousand times on TV.

I've watched LONDON yesterday, with jessica biel and the guy from Transporter in one of the main roles - hilarious movie about too much drugs on a party.

The weather man with Nicolas Cage, what a fucked up movie. If you watch it, you will crack up, honestly. That guy got about 10 milkshakes thrown at his head during the movie, gotta love the states. Especially because the movie is more a tragedy than a comedy.

There was this movie that came next to saw, also a japanese movie that got put into an american version with the bitch from Buffy. It was actually pretty nice.

Movies "ok" to watch if you're up to turning off your brain : Land of the dead, DOOM

Movies not worth watching :
THE FOG - no don't do it, you will fall asleep after 15 minutes.
House of wax - ok there I was.. trapped... in the cinema -_- This movie sucked.

In the mood for love, Rashomon, Breathless, Hiroshima Mon Amour, Paather Panchali, Un Chien Andalou, Battleship Potemkin.

Now those movies own O__o, <3 Goddard.

And btw, among the hollywood ones, i guess The machinist was cool, was a bit let down by Saw 2, but love the "dead" series by Romero (the re-makes suck) and some Carpenter movies (In the mouth of madness etc)

One of the best films I have ever seen was Luc Besson's - Léon - The Professional (Very good script - the lovestory between the two characters and the funereal end - Tears guaranteed). The Fifth Element was a nice movie too (Luc Besson).

Some other good films are : The Machinist, American Psycho, Batman Begins and Equilibrium with Christian Bale.

That movie with Sarah M Gellar is The Grudge I think. Haven't seen it thought :) One horror movie/year is enough for me anyways. It's basically the same every time anyways.

Hmmm... Has anyone seen Amelie from Monmartre? That one was pretty funny imo :)
