Myway in the chair

Played.dk has written an article about our very own MYM Talent, MyWa. Meetyourmakers.com brings you exclusively the translation, translated by the author himself - Doomschild, and our very own Maestro.

Denmark Glen "MyWa" Hansen, one of the most talented nightelfs in Denmark, started playing Warcraft III in late ROC. Back then, he as all other newcomers wasn't familiar with the game; MyWahowever he quickly fought his way to a winrate of 36% with his "incredible" kotg/hunt rush strategy.

Since then he has come a long way, and with a good list of ex-clans he is now found in mYm.talents, before we start the interview, we would like to bring you some information about former clans, favourite matchups and such.

Interview

When you look down your list of ex-clans you see a great deal of known names (DVAS > OmB > Kapow! > Faktory.dk > BT.CPH > Ali > idle > mYmT), which of these have clans have you felt most comfortable and in which have you developed the most?

I haven’t been that long in mYm so I can’t really say that’s where I’ve developed the most, but i count on this being the place where i will develop the most in the future. If i look back, which isn’t to far back, I think I have developed most together with the Swedish/Estonian team idle where I played in many leagues and I went to a big event in Ukraine with them.

You played in idle with a great deal of known players and you yourself say that this is where you developed the most, what made you leave idle for mYmT?

I joined idle because i wanted to try something international, which was a lot of experience for me since i had never tried a clan outside of Denmark. But after 6 months at idle I missed being a part of a strong Danish team that could perform both nationally and internationally, so when I got the offer form mYm I accepted thinking this would be a good chance to develop my play even further and also proving that a purely Danish team can make it in international tournaments like WC3L, the same tournament we have just signed up for.

In mYm.Talents you play with some of the most talented players in Denmark, how is the chemistry on the team and how do you work together

In the beginning i was a little bit nervous about whether I’d fit in or not, but it is obvious now how good we are together since we often see each other outside of the game and we often talk together about strategies and practice together.

You play together with Taager, DarK, ThomasG & Rosenkill on the talent team of mYm, try and tell us a little about your relationship with each player together with their role on their team and how you think they have performed lately.

Well let’s start with our own little Yoda. Taager is a talent beyond limits and has very good micro and excellent game understanding. He is young and has much to learn but he can play with the best. Nicolai is a great friend and a very talented player, he also has a nice brother (which I am going partying with soon)

I have known DarK for a long time and I see him often at parties and such fun outside of Wc3. He is also a really talented player and a superb friend. On his good days he can play with both the best nationally and internationally and lately he has shown to be an important piece of the team.

The Undead-Nightelf duo consisting of ThomasG and Rosenkill are some wonderful players to have on the team. They play a really good classic 2on2 game and also have the abilities to perform well in 1on1. I have known them for a good while now but it is only now after we are together under the mYm tag that we are truly good friends. It is really a honor to play with them because they always deliver excellent results.

Now that you bring up practicing, how does your schedule look like, how much do you practice up to tournaments and clanwars and what about the normal days?

Well I’m kinda busy with school as it is now because I’m finishing third year of my education. Normally I play around 4-5 hours of ladder games daily, then I watch 1-1½ hours of replays and play a couple of custom games to practice and improve my flaws. If there is a clanwar upcomming I try to find a person i can train with all the time. Before big tournaments I try to practice as much as possibly, most of the time over clients like hamachi or GGclient so im better prepared to play with Lanping. If you’re used to playing with battle.net delay it really is hard to just suddenly play with zero delay on lan.

Allmost all players can point out something they think are imbalanced, what do you think should be changed?

Well there is a few things that are wrong. Moonstone and Critters really suck, they should be replaced by something usefull. Spiritwalkers don’t hang enough in the air when they get cycloned. Dotts are as everybody knows imba, either they should change the manacost of cyclone nad faerie fire or make som cooldown changed to make sure that you can’t cyclone constantly.

You have just finished the groupplay of NCL taking first place of your group and you are now about to play playoffs. What are you expectations to the team and how far do you think you can go?

Personally I think we can win NCL, vi have a really strong team especially with Rosenkill/ThomasG who are practicing hard in 2on2 and 1on1. Taager hasn’t been defeated in a clanwar for mYm yet and DarK who lately has shown excellent results in all his matches.

Many would think that WC3 is going downhill lately. Do you think the great deal of people playing DotA now has damaged WC3 and its playerbase?

Nah I don’t think so. The ones that want to play dota should just have fun with that. I think it’s a 100% waste of time, real talents stick to 1on1.

What do you think it takes for the Danish players to be able to compete some more in the international scene?

Lots of training, more understanding of the game and as much as possible try to establish contact with players from the whole word. Every person in WC3 who plays wc3 on a higher has there own little thing and it rougly matters whether or not you can collect all these little fine skills and increase your own potential.

When you look at the WC3-scene over the last couple of years the European and American world have gained more and more contact with the korean scene which has resulted in a lot of Korean players in WC3L. Is this development for the better or for the worse and how do you think this has effected the Danish players chance to play in WC3L?

I think it’s great that we have been mixed together with the Koreans because we can learn a lot from them and they can learn a lot from us. ToD also just proved at he can play with the best when he won WEGMasters and the 30.000$, there was a lot of good Korean players in this tournament but ToD proved that Europeans still are going strong. It is ofcourse harder to get into wc3l now that there is so many good contestants and many of those Koreans, but some challenge has never killed anyone.

What are the plans for the future, both for your team and yourself?

The 16th of May I get to know which exams I have to finish, and I hope to finish them in style. After that I have a whole year of wc3 and working. So I really hope to develop this year and next year before I start studying to become a engineer. Concerning the team we are going to try to attend as many big tournaments and lans as possibly, but right we are focusing on the WC3L qualifier.

Thanks for the long and good answers, any last comments to the people?

Him nae ra!*

* Korean and means keep fighting.

Opinions

Denmark ThomasG (teammate)
Myway is a great guy, both online and irl, he is one of the key persons in the Danish wc3 scene. Since he has joined mym.talents I have got to know him even better, and my impression have only gotten even better, he seams like someone who has what it takes to go very far because he puts in the necessary work. Thumbs up for Glen.

Denmark Rosenkill (teammate)
MyWay is simply the nightelf champion, he is a true winner. Glen is persistent in his effort when it is comes to getting better in wc3, and he is without a doubt one of Denmarks best NE players (and one of denmarks best players generally) and he is also a nice guy... Gogo Glenn for the win.

Sweden GlaiVe (player in verge, has won PWC3 countless times):
I got to know MyWa in person at playz a couple of months ago, he's a great guy and a skilled player. I'm sure he can get even better if he keeps practicing hard, his panda abuse is already flawless! :)

Most will say that the future looks promising for MyWay, and we from Played would like to wish him best of luck in the future.
