Starcraft SuperStarS hype: 11 Players Interviewed

sc

It is Saturday night and the clock is ticking mercilessly. Counting out minute after minute as it is closing in on one of the biggest events in North American StarCraft: Brood War history. It is exactly 24 hour until sixteen StarCraft geniuses will clash in eSTRO’s newly announced SuperStarS tournament. The prizes? One thousand dollar pool, with exactly half of it going to the winner. And while it may seem like a formidable compensation, it is but a shadow of what is really at stake for those guys. A dream. A chance to become what they have always coveted -- a professional StarCraft: Brood War gamer in Korea, South Korea.

Eye of the tiger playing in their headphones, StarCraft CDs spinning viciously inside the loins of their PC’s, they half-worry, half-wonder what hardships they might encounter in the lands of far East. But as the familiar Kerrigan face loads up on their screens they come to sudden realization. In Korea there are no winners or losers. An experience of a lifetime, it gives you the bragging rights no matter who you are and what you’ve done. Whether you are Guillaume Patry, and have won a Starleague, or Dan Schreiber, and the only success you’ve known was in shady Seoul nightclubs, you still remain a star. But for now there is one final challenge on their way. Fifteen other people who want it just as bad.

“But why take their willpower, why take their dedication for granted?” We thought to ourselves here at MYM. So we took our time, took out our pens and notepads and contacted the players. We asked them what they thought about the upcoming tournament and their possible trip to Korea and gathered up what they had to say in a neat Q&A session.

We managed to reach the following 11 players:

United State- Dan "Artosis" Stemkoski

United State- Eric "G5" Rothmuller

United State- Greg "Idra" Fields

United State- Jacob "LzGamer" Winstead

United State- Bryce Paul "TheMachine" Bates

United State- Tyler "Nony" Wasieleski

United State- Dhinesh Kumar "Nesh" Devanathan:

United State- David "Dino" Kent

United State- Andrew "Slog4" An

Canada Jian Fei "Iefnaij" Wang

Canada Zhe "XiaoZi" Theng

And ask them the following 12 questions:

Q1: Are you surprised at all the sudden interest Korean professional teams are exhibiting towards ‘Foreinger’ Scene? (I.E. this tournament; Testie receiving CJ invitation.)

Q2: What motives do you think lie behind this tournament? Can it be the SC2 announcement?

Q3: Why do you think the tournament is limited to North Americans, despite the fact that the other parts of the world still harbor quiet a lot of talent as well?

Q4: Are you actually planning on going to Korea if invited or are you in just for the money?

Q5: Lately a lot of top players have been complaining of inactivity and lack of interest. Do you consider yourself being in good shape?

Q6: Have you been practicing specifically for this tournament?

Q7: How do you consider your chances to win this tournament?

Q8: Who would you pick as the favorites?

Q9: Do you consider the rules fair? (The fact that Estro retains the right to pick the person who’s actually getting the contract out of the top 5)

Q10: What criteria do you think they will look at while choosing the player? Do you think you match this criteria?

Q11: If you would actually go to Korea do you think you could succeed as a progamer?

Q12: Your first opponent is ____. What are your predictions for the match?

Anxious to find out what your favorite player had to say? Well, what are you waiting for, read on!
