TESTING

After receiving this headset (Steelsound 5h v2), I was really pleased, because I had read a few good reviews about it already. Just after receiving it I connected it into my USB soundcard. Although it looked and felt great the first time I tried it on, I went on testing the product as you should not judge things by its first impression.

First of all, I will start to talk about the integrated microphone which has been upgraded since the last version. It is now longer and with better specifications, and what happens if you don't like the new length? Nothing, you simply push it back into place.

If you are considering a trip to some sort of LAN event in the near future - you will have no problems with traveling with the SteelSound 5hv2. Simply dismantle the headset into 3 parts, and you don't have to wonder about having it broke at LAN (at least you leave one of the parts at your home). The ear cushions have also been upgraded and are now bigger and even more comfortable than before!

GAMING

My test is revolving around Counter-Strike 1.6 and Quake IV, but I played a few other games also. For example; Day of Defeat, Battlefield 2 and several others. The main aspect for the creators behind the headset is to make you hear your enemy before they hear you, and to let you know where they are.

This is not the first gaming headset I've tried so I'm known with the important factors to make a good product. You need time to get good results, but in the beginning it was pretty hard as I was checking my sound configuration all the time. It didn't work properly - the two first days which made me kind of depressed. But when I got it to work it was really worth it. My ears became a little hot after several hours gaming, but I haven't found a headset that doesn't make them warm after a good while.

After hours of enjoyable gaming with my new headset, I went on to test it in Windows Media Player with music to see how it would handle it. It impressed me again, but it is important to keep in mind that it is a headset meant for gaming and can't really be compared with classic headsets which cost loads.

If you are into gaming or planning to play a lot - I recommend you to buy this headset!
